While living in England, Janet Davis fell in love. Not with a person—for she was already happily married—but with the floral scenery of her street, called Hilly Fields. The imagery stayed with her and helped inspire her to open Hilly Fields Florist and Gifts in 1994.
Born and raised in Tallahassee, Janet never left except for the seven years she spent in England while her husband served in the air force. While she was dedicated to her role as a payroll director for the State of Florida, she dreamed of one day owning her own flower shop. She would eventually turn her fond memories of Hilly Fields and passion for flowers into a business venture fulfilling her dream.
Hilly Fields Florist and Gifts is a full service florist offering everything from wedding and funeral to holiday and new baby flower and plant arrangements. The flowers are freshly imported from farms all over the world and can be made to order in traditional, high style, seasonal or funky ways. Additionally, the store is known for its themed gift baskets, which are often a popular alternative to flowers for men especially, and the unique and fun gift shop.

In an effort to serve the community and increase outreach, Janet provides flowers and gift certificates for various charitable events. She finds this more effective than print advertising. Her favorite way to give is to make prom corsages and boutonnieres for the students at Gretchen Everheart School; she has participated in that event for many, many years.

Janet emphasizes that the best part of her business is her family’s involvement. She, her daughter and son-in-law believe that when you love what you do, it shows, and they believe their attitudes and knowledge are what keep customers returning again and again.
